Rural-first design — because a platform requiring a good phone, a steady connection and English excludes the user it was built for.
Rural-first design — because a platform requiring a good phone, a steady connection and English excludes the user it was built for.
The user context. Farmers frequently use entry-level phones on intermittent connectivity, may prefer voice to text, and read in regional languages. A platform assuming a smartphone, a steady connection and English literacy excludes the majority of its intended users.
Text-based, English-first, connectivity-dependent design fails in rural India, and the failure is usually attributed to low adoption rather than to the design that caused it. Voice interfaces in regional languages, offline capability and SMS or IVR fallbacks are not accessibility extras here — they are the primary path.
The second consideration is trust. Advisory that contradicts local experience without explaining itself is ignored. Recommendations need reasoning and, where possible, local validation behind them.
Apps installed once and never opened, because they assume the wrong user.
Recommendations not tied to local conditions, so they are ignored.
Origin claims that buyers and exporters cannot verify.
Collection tools requiring connectivity that is not there.
Regional language voice interaction over IVR and WhatsApp.
Collection that works without connectivity and syncs later.
Verifiable origin records for buyers and export markets.
Connecting producers to buyers with transparent pricing.
Increasingly well for major Indian languages, though quality varies by dialect and by agricultural vocabulary. We test on recordings of actual users rather than relying on published benchmarks, which rarely reflect rural speech.
Through local intermediaries — cooperatives, input dealers, extension workers — rather than digital marketing. Trust travels through existing relationships, and a platform introduced by someone known locally is used far more than one advertised.
A discovery call is a working session on your constraint, not a sales pitch.
A short note is enough. You'll hear back from the team, not a bot — usually within one working day.
