Branding

Positioning, identity and guidelines specific enough to be applied consistently by people who were not in the room.

What does a branding project include?

A branding project typically covers positioning — who you are for and why you are different — visual identity including logo, colour, typography and imagery, verbal identity covering tone and messaging, and guidelines documenting how all of it is applied across channels.

Guidelines fail by being too vague

Most brand guidelines specify colours and logo clear space, then say the tone is 'professional yet approachable'. That sentence is unusable. A junior writer at an agency you have never met cannot apply it, so they guess, and the brand drifts.

Useful verbal guidelines contain examples: this sentence is on brand, this one is not, and here is why. Useful positioning names who you are not for. Specificity is what makes guidelines survive contact with people outside the founding team.

Frequently asked

Questions we get about this

Do we need a full rebrand or a refresh?

Rebrand when the positioning has genuinely changed or the identity actively works against you. Refresh when the strategy holds and execution has drifted. Full rebrands are expensive, disruptive and frequently recommended when a refresh would do — we will tell you which we think you need.

Will a new brand increase sales?

Not directly or immediately, and any agency promising that is overselling. Branding reduces friction, improves recall and makes every subsequent marketing rupee work slightly harder. It is a compounding investment, not a campaign.

Talk it through before you commit

A discovery call is a working session on your constraint, not a sales pitch.
