Creative

Brand, design and production judged on whether they work — ads that earn attention, sites that convert, identity that survives contact with a spreadsheet.

What does a creative practice deliver?

Creative work covers brand identity and guidelines, advertising creative built for testing, website and interface design, video and photography production, motion graphics and audio. In a performance context it is measured on outcomes — click-through, conversion and recall — rather than on internal preference.

Creative is the highest-leverage variable left

Platform algorithms now handle most targeting and bidding decisions. What an advertiser still controls is the creative — and on social and video it is by some distance the largest determinant of performance. That makes creative production capacity a media performance issue, not an aesthetic one.

Brand work operates on a different clock. It will not show up in this month's cost per acquisition, and it is what makes the acquisition cheaper in year three. We are explicit about which kind of work a brief is asking for, because measuring one by the other's standard leads to bad decisions.

Frequently asked

Questions we get about this

How do you measure creative?

In advertising, on cost per outcome against a control. In brand work, on recall, association and consistency over time. What we avoid is judging brand work by last week's click-through rate, or performance creative by whether the team liked it.

Do you work to our existing brand guidelines?

Yes, and where guidelines are missing or contradictory we will say so — inconsistent application is one of the most common and least noticed sources of weak brand performance.
