Hosting, domain & server setup

Hosting configured properly the first time — SSL, DNS, backups that restore, and email that reaches the inbox.

What does proper hosting setup include?

Proper hosting setup covers server provisioning and hardening, DNS configuration, SSL certificates with auto-renewal, automated backups that have been test-restored, monitoring and alerting, and email authentication records — SPF, DKIM and DMARC — so your mail is not filtered as spam.

Two failures cost more than everything else

The first is a backup that has never been restored. Plenty of businesses run nightly backups for years and discover at the worst moment that the job had been failing silently, or that nobody knows the restore procedure. A backup is only real once it has been restored into a working system.

The second is email deliverability. Without SPF, DKIM and DMARC published correctly, your invoices, password resets and enquiry notifications land in spam — and nobody tells you. Businesses lose real revenue to this for months without diagnosing it.

Frequently asked

Questions we get about this

Shared hosting or a VPS?

Shared hosting is fine for brochure sites and light traffic, and it is genuinely cheaper. A VPS becomes worthwhile when you need control over the environment, consistent performance, or you are running an application rather than a site. We size it to your actual traffic, not an aspirational figure.

Why is our email going to spam?

Almost always missing or misconfigured SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, sometimes combined with sending from a shared IP with poor reputation. It is fixable in a day and the improvement is usually immediate and obvious.
