Website design

Design shaped around the path a buyer takes — accessible, fast to load, and built as a system rather than a set of pages.

What makes a website design effective?

An effective design guides visitors along the path they came for, makes the next action obvious at every point, loads quickly on real devices, and remains usable with a keyboard or screen reader. Visual appeal matters, but it is downstream of structure and clarity.

Design the path, then decorate it

The most common design failure is a beautiful homepage that does not answer what the visitor came to find out. People arrive with a question — does this company do the thing I need, can they do it at my scale, how do I contact them — and design either answers those quickly or loses them.

We design as a component system rather than page by page, which keeps the site consistent as it grows and makes handover to developers precise. Accessibility and performance targets are set at the design stage, because both are far cheaper to design in than to retrofit.

Process flow for Website design
  1. 01

    Map the journeys

What each audience came for, and the path to it.

  2. 02

    Structure the content

Information architecture before any visual work.

  3. 03

    Design the system

Components, type scale, colour, spacing and states.

  4. 04

    Check accessibility

Contrast, focus states, keyboard paths, at design stage.

  5. 05

    Prototype and hand over

    Interactive prototype plus developer-ready specification.

Deliverables

What you receive

  • Information architecture and journey maps
  • A component-based design system in Figma
  • Designed page templates across breakpoints
  • Accessibility annotations and contrast verification
  • Interactive prototype and developer handover documentation

Engagement shape

Six to fourteen weeks depending on template count, usually running into a build engagement.

Tooling

What we typically build with

  • Figma
  • WCAG 2.1 AA
  • Design tokens
  • Prototyping
  • Contrast and accessibility testing

Stack decisions follow the problem. This is where we usually start, not a fixed menu.

Frequently asked

Questions we get about this

Do you build what you design?

Yes, through our engineering and front end practices, and we are equally happy handing over to your developers with a documented system. Designs that cannot be built as specified are a common and avoidable waste, so we annotate rather than assume.

Should the design be based on a template?

For small brochure sites, a well-chosen template is a legitimate economy and we will say so. Custom design earns its cost when the site has a specific conversion path, a distinct brand, or scale that a template cannot organise.

Talk it through before you commit

A discovery call is a working session on your constraint, not a sales pitch.

Quick inquiry

Tell us what you're trying to build

A short note is enough. You'll hear back from the team, not a bot — usually within one working day.
