What is answer engine optimisation?

Being named and cited when a buyer asks an AI assistant, rather than only ranking on Google.

What is answer engine optimisation?

Answer engine optimisation, also called generative engine optimisation, is the practice of structuring content so AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity can retrieve, understand and cite it accurately. It emphasises direct answers, specific verifiable facts and clean structured markup.

Models quote specifics and ignore adjectives

A page saying 'a leading provider of innovative solutions' gives a model nothing to quote. A page saying 'founded in 2019 in Dombivli, building grievance redressal systems and AI agents' gives it a sentence it can cite with attribution.

That difference decides which company gets named in the answer.

What the work involves

  • A direct answer to the page's own question in the first paragraph.
  • Real questions as headings, matching how people actually ask.
  • Facts stated plainly with dates, numbers and sources.
  • Schema markup — Organization, FAQPage, Article, BreadcrumbList.
  • An llms.txt file describing the site for AI crawlers.
  • Consistent entity information across the site, schema and external profiles.

How it is measured, honestly

There is no ranking report for AI citations. Measurement means systematically testing a set of category queries across assistants and tracking whether you appear. It is less exact than rank tracking, and that is the current state of the discipline rather than a gap in method.

Talk it through before you commit

A discovery call is a working session on your constraint, not a sales pitch.
